Teen Miss Lumbee
2011-2012
Taley Strickland

Hello Everyone!
I am your Teen Miss Lumbee 2011-2012, Taley Anna
Strickland. It is such a blessing to be
representing the Lumbee Tribe, once again! I
am honored to be given the opportunity to share and promote our culture to
others around us. I would first like to
thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for giving me the ability to represent
our tribe. Also, thank you to all the
people who helped make my dream of becoming Teen Miss Lumbee possible!
Without you I would not be where I am
today. During my reign I plan to
represent our tribe in a Godly manner. While
doing all of this I also will be promoting my platform, Breakfast Buddies:
A Mentoring Program between High School
Students and Elementary School Students. Every
Friday morning around 7:30 high school students go to their correlating
elementary school for 45 minutes and eat breakfast with one child, which the
teacher recommends to the Principal of the elementary school.
During this time the high school
student, the mentor, talks to the child, gives them advice on any situation
that they may be going through, and basically makes them feel as if they have
a friend and someone to look up to. The
mentor stays with the child for the entire school year and ultimately makes a
bond with the child. During my freshman
year I created and implemented this program into Purnell Swett High School and
Pembroke Elementary School. I saw
first-hand how effective this program really is.
My ultimate goal is to have this
program implemented in schools across the county.
I am blessed to be holding the title Teen Miss Lumbee and will do
everything I can to represent our tribe the way we deserve to be represented!
Once again, thank you for allowing me
to be one of your reigning ambassadors and representatives this year.
With love and gratitude,
Taley Anna Strickland, Teen Miss Lumbee 2011-2012
